Disappearing Neighborhood

Background concept:

There seem to be two extremes in our city's perception range these days.

Either close the bedroom door, take off the mask, and just feel alive.

Either one picks up the phone and suddenly cares about any interaction or family matter thousands of miles away.

The area between the ‘bedroom’ and the ‘world’ seems to disappear, the surroundings become blurred, and interactions with the people and things around us become unfamiliar

The public sphere is actually collapsing, and the internet has made it appear that the public sphere extends to the entire globe, but in reality it has shrunk to the home - an illusory mirror image, as if a small film were projected onto a large screen through a light, but one can only establish one's own world by being in the company of others.

A 2D game made with Godot, switching character avatars by means of summoning to pass the level, the player needs to find the treasure with reasonable strategy and constant attempts. By echoing the theme of “Vanishing Neighborhood” through interesting games, we hope that players can learn the core of community building and the charm of teamwork from nature.

Learning From Nature:

  • Animals, like ants and bees, rely on strong social structures to thrive.

  • By studying these communities, we learn that collaboration and interconnected roles are essential for survival.

  • Can these natural behaviors inspire ways to reengage human communities?

Players take on the role of an ant exploring a fragmented environment and must work together to restore their colony.

“Players summon and control different types of ants to rebuild fragmented areas of the colony.”

Worker Ants – “Repair pathways and build new connections.”
Soldier Ants – “Protect the colony and overcome obstacles.”
Forager Ants – “Gather resources essential for growth.”

“These roles highlight the importance of collaboration and interdependence.”

The game's visual style evolves as the player rebuilds the lair (community) - it starts off muted and fragmented and becomes more vibrant as connections are restored.

Ant Echoes isn’t just a game—it’s a way to show how every small action can strengthen a community.

By helping the colony rebuild, players experience the impact of collaboration and unity.

Like the ants, our communities need every individual to help keep them thriving.
